Troy Vick was an outstanding Manteca High athlete who has been in the hearts of family and friends since he was killed in a traffic accident in Tracy some four years ago at the age of 32. 
Twenty-three monetary scholarships have been awarded in his name since his death.
Every year the family has been running a drive-thru box dinner outside Fagundes Meats and Catering at 142 Jason Street in an effort to keep his name alive by providing athletic scholarships to students at both Manteca High and Sierra High schools.
There were 365 tickets sold throughout the community this year with $15 donations that will provide at least another five scholarships in May to graduating high school seniors from both schools. As drivers pulled into the driveway of the meat market, a volunteer checked their tickets and put a number on their windshields so the workers knew which dinner or dinners to hand them. There were some 15 family members and friends working the food delivery line.
Among those working the food line were his grandparents Walker Vick and Phyllis Jameson along with his girlfriend Shawna Thornhill who now lives in Las Vegas where Troy lived at the time of his death where he was a professional poker player.
For those who weren’t able to make the Thursday night event and would like to donate to the scholarship fund, they can go to F&M Bank on North Main Street and donate to the Troy Vick Memorial Scholarship Fund.
