Another local donor stepped up to help fund the Ripon Police Department’s newly redesigned badges.

No discussion was needed at Monday’s Ripon City Council meeting for Michael White’s $1,982 donation to cover the remaining balance of the 25 police badges for all sworn personnel.

The total cost of $3,963 will now be 100 percent covered via donors thanks to the generosity of White and Restuccia Enterprises, which paid for the other half (accepted was the $1,981 donation) last month.

The remaining balance would have come out of the City of Ripon’s General Fund if not for the support of White.

The local police department is collaborating with V & V Manufacturing, Inc. to redesign the new badges – the redesigned will be that of a two-tone regular blue enamel, and formed / flat.

Police badges serve as a symbol of authority – they’re worn on the left side of the uniform and includes the officer’s name or identification number, as required by California law.

For the Ripon Police Department, the new badges will go to the police chief (one) and lieutenant (one) along with four sergeants, 17 police officers, and two detectives.
