John Harlen Coburn obit

John Coburn was born to Arvy and Erma Coburn in Escalon, CA in 1942. He passed away at the age of 83.

John is survived by his wife Daisy Cade Coburn and his five children: David Coburn (Shannon Coburn) IA, Debbie Shaw (Dennis Shaw) Escalon, CA, Susan Biggs (Dan Biggs) Waterford, CA, Shawn Coburn Dietzel, Escalon, CA, Daniel Coburn (Audra Coburn) Stockton, CA, as well as Daisy’s children: Jermaine Cade (Tiana Cade) Oakland, CA, and Derek Cade, El Cerrito, CA.  Combined they had: 27 grandchildren: and 9 great- grandchildren.  John’s siblings: Ronnie Coburn (Petaluma), Janice Myers (Escalon, CA), as well as those that preceded him in death: Donald Coburn, James Coburn, Art Coburn, Peggy Coburn and Dwain Coburn.

Although born in Escalon, the Coburn family returned to Texas where John spent the first few years of his life. Wanting a better life for his family, John’s father then returned the family back to Escalon where John attended school. Throughout school, he was very athletic and enjoyed being involved in activities such as basketball, football, and track where he set school records in the shot-put event. Upon graduating from high school in 1960, he joined the army where he met his wife, Penny Coburn, who became his wife for the next 52 years.  After John’s time in the service and being newly married, he was fortunate enough to get an entry level job as a bank teller. He took this opportunity to get his start in the banking field and worked his way up from teller to bank manager where he served for nearly 40 years before he retired. John was an active member of his community with a heart to serve others. He held positions in various service groups such as Manteca Kiwanis, Give Every Child a Chance, The Boys and Girls Club, and the Boys Scouts. Throughout the years, John was always fascinated with real estate and upon retirement, he continued pursuing this interest.

After the passing of his first wife, he met and married Daisy Cade. They have spent several years weaving their families and lives together while residing in Manteca, CA. They are active members of the Lathrop Community Church.  Above all John will be remembered most for being a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He found great delight in golfing, being in nature, spending time by the ocean and enjoying family camp outs.

As much as we will miss him, we are confident that because of his great faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, he was enthusiastically received into Heaven’s gates and is with him now.

All are invited to attend his Celebration of Life service on Wednesday, March 11th, at 10:30 followed by a luncheon at the Trinity Church in Escalon. Graveside burial is private and will be conducted at a later time.
