New access point on Airport Way to MUSD office complex possible

Traffic improvements connected with the proposed Village at Ticino shopping center will eliminate the ability to turn left into the Manteca Unified School District headquarters complex from Airport Way.

And it will make it impossible for vehicles leaving the complex to exit by turning left onto either Airport Way or Louise Avenue .

That’s because the developer — to improve traffic flow and safety — has been required by the City of Manteca to place medians on both arterials.

Eastbound vehicles coming from Lathrop will still be able to turn left into the district complex.

The pending changes have prompted the district to explore creating a new entrance off of Airport Way aligned with its current T-intersection with Mission Avenue just south of the railroad crossing.

The median will block the current bus entrance.

Without the new driveway, buses would need to take circuitous routes that would add significant miles to daily trips.

Aaron Bowers, the Manteca Unified director of facilities and operations, noted the change would maintain safe and efficient bus access and would coordinate with a planned perimeter fencing project.

The developers, when the median project goes forward, will be widening Louise Avenue to four lanes as it passes the district office.

Not only would that eliminate a traffic tourniquet, but is also will include adding curbs, gutters and sidewalks on both sides of the street.
