Melody Cayleen Carbiener peacefully entered into Glory on June 8, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, on December 27, 1955, and resided in cities across the U.S. throughout her life. However, she truly found her home in Manteca, California. As a cherished resident for the past 40 years, Melody touched countless lives in this area with her faith, music, and kindness.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Kevin Edward Carbiener; her parents, Roy and Jean Albrecht, and her brother-in-law, Mark Osborne. She is survived by her daughters, Megan Jeanne Carbiener and Katelyn Rose Der, and her son-in-law, Erik Der. She also leaves behind her sister, Gwynn Osborne, her favorite granddog, Midge, and Megan’s boyfriend, Luu Thai.

Melody received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and earned her teaching certificates in Washington and California. She went on to inspire students in those states as a music educator, including at Tracy High School. After having children, Melody then faithfully served as a Church Music Director for more than 40 years. She worked at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tracy, then enjoyed a long career at United Lutheran Church in Manteca.

As a gifted vocalist and musician, Melody generously shared her talents: she taught piano and guitar, directed choir and handbell ensembles, sang in the Pacific Choral, and found a special delight in leading Christmas/Easter cantatas and developing children’s ministries. She believed that everyone should have the opportunity to encounter the joy of music, regardless of talent or experience, and her patient encouragement and servant heart shaped the confidence of many individuals.

Outside of her musical pursuits, Melody was a true foodie. Her husband, Kevin, was her preferred chef, but she also loved trying new restaurants and watching cooking shows, and she could often be found with a Diet Coke in hand. She also enjoyed home design, shopping and fashion, watching her daily soap operas, and was a keen board game competitor. She treasured the companionship of little dogs, couldn’t pass a fountain without admiring its beauty, and relished cool, spring days in California.

With a deep and enduring love for her husband and daughters, she devoted her life to supporting and encouraging them. Melody will be remembered for her warm spirit, quick wit, and humble nature. She brought happiness to everyone around her with her infectious smile, accented by beautiful dimples. Melody had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued - her legacy of faith, music, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Though her earthly song has ended, we have confidence that she now sings with perfected vitality before the throne of Christ. The beautiful melody that she shared with her life will continue to resonate for generations to come.

P.L. Fry and Son is honored to be serving the Carbiener family. A memorial will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 4:00 PM at United Lutheran Church 649 Northgate Dr, Manteca, CA. For direct condolences to the family visit www.plfry.com
