TRACY — Mason Eagal led the North All Stars to a 34-14 win over the South on Friday in the 50th edition of the District 4-A1 Lions All-Star game at Wayne Schneider Stadium.

Eagal, a St. Mary’s of Stockton product, was named the game’s MVP and started the night’s scoring with a 34-yard field goal late in the first quarter and capped the night with a 30-yard field goal with 1:47 left in the game. Ripon’s Walker Leamer was the right tackle.

“This was definitely different form a high school game when there are usually only a few good guys,” Leamer said. “The whole team was full of all stars.”

Jaiveer Grewal of River Islands was across from Leamer at left tackle.

“I felt great getting another opportunity to come out and ball it again in high school before I move on to the college level,” Grewal said.

“It was fun out there getting challenged and being able to hold it down.”

Manteca’s Maava Tialavea had a bruising night at fullback for the North, grinding out 61 yards on 15 carries.

“It was just a blessing to play in this game,” Tialavea said. “It was great being one of the few that was chosen to play in such an environment getting to play with some of my friends on my side and some of my friends on the other side.

“We came out and won, and I am proud of this team.”

Before being forced to leave the game due to injury, Lathrop’s Pablo Peña helped plug up the middle of the field for the North with three tackles from his linebacker slot.

“I feel great about tonight,” Peña said. “It was a fun time before I got hurt. Everything else was fun, and the whole week was a great experience.

“It was fun to get out there one last time in high school, especially playing with a new group of backers. It was a learning experience, but just knowing I was competing with best made me feel pretty good about who was around me, and I was glad to be around them.”

Also playing for the North was Manteca’s Xyloh Kuresa at defensive end and Ripon’s Tipeti Paini who made three tackles from the defensive line.
