TURLOCK – Ripon’s Jacob Petersen baffled the Turlock-American batters through four shut-out innings Tuesday night in championship-round action of the Section 6 11-and-under tournament at Paul Cooper Field.

Then came the ill-fated fifth inning.

Turlock-American managed seven runs in the frame, with four coming on and after a two out error to take a one-run lead. Ripon tied it in the sixth, took a one-run lead in the seventh only for Turlock American to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-8 win, forcing a winner-take-all contest tonight at 7.

Petersen allowed only three hits going into the fateful fifth with just one runner making it past first base. He had tremendous defense behind him to include right fielder Derek Ponce, who threw a runner out at first to end the third inning and repeated the fete to start the fourth.

Ripon’s big inning was the four-run fourth.

Tallon Koolhass (two runs) reached on an error to start the frame, Lucas Durao was hit by a pitch and then Elias Sandoval (2 for 3, RBI, double, two runs) doubled, scoring Koolhaas. Petersen followed with a line-drive single off the right-field fence, scoring Durao and Sandoval.

Later in the inning, Dylan Jasper (RBI, run) scored on an error off the bat of Lincoln Reynolds for a 4-0 lead.

Sandoval walked to lead off the fifth and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Reynolds. Koolhaas scored on a bases-loaded walk to Jasper in the fifth to make the score 6-0. Ripon left the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings, stranding a total of 10 runners.

Ripon started the seventh inning with Cloward on second due to tournament rules and he took third and home on wild pitches. Turlock walked the game off in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-RBI single by Lucas Gomez (3 for 3, two RBI, run), scoring Sawyer Vilas (two runs) and Shane Keane.
