When Layla McKennee takes the stage Friday, she definitely wants to entertain the audience.

But equally important, she hopes the production of Disney’s “High School Musical 2” being staged by the Cornerstone Community Theatre has an impact on those in attendance.

“I love it,” McKennee said of performing. “It’s a great way to make friends.”

And as fellow cast member Eve Martin notes, besides enjoying the fun, it is also a great way of driving home a message, which in the case oof “High School Musical 2” is “anyone can change.”

Cornerstone Community Theater plans four performances of the musical scheduled. They are Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; as well as Sunday, July 26, at 4 p.m.

Preferred seating is $20 while general seating is 415.

The musical tales place at Cornerstone Community Church, 10948 Airport Way.

It is located north of Roth Road on the east side of Airport Way.

The adaption of the wildly popular Disney Channel movie of the same name features everyone’s favorited Wildcats.

The East High students can’t wait for summer to get started — they’re ready for summer jobs and fun.

They all get jobs at Lava Springs Country Club, which is owned by popular girl Sharpay Evanss father.

While Sharpay schemes to steal Troy’s heart from Gabriella and win the Star Dazzle award, her brother, Ryan, realizes people are more important than the prize.

Everything comes to a head at the talent show, where the group remembers their motto: “All For One and One For All.”

The family friendly show features rockin’ songs, beautiful music, and high-energy dance numbers.

The musical celebrates friendship, growth, and maturity.

The cast includes Kaden McGuire as Troy Bolton, Layla McKennee as Gabrielle Montez, Isaac Basurto as Chad Danforth, Eve Martin as Taylor McKessie, Vinny Moser as Zeke Naylor, Ava Dos Reis as Martha Cox, Delaney McGuire as Kelsi Neilsen, Evan Inouye as Jack Scott, Maxine Darpinian as Sharpay Evans, Trevor Benedict as Ryan Evans, and Nihar Jain as Mr. Fulton.

Michealle Hoag is the director, Kristin Scott is the vocal director, Atlantah Flora is the choreographer, Becca Larsen is in charge of costumes, and Jerry Bradford is handling the set design.
