The Manteca Rays took an early double-digit lead Friday and withstood a late run by the Ripon Dodgers and posted a16-8 win on Bassi Field at Northgate Little League. Manteca faces the Tracy A’s this morning at 8 in the District 67 Little League Tournament of Champions consolation final.
Julian Rodriguez (2 for 3, two RBI, triple, two runs) had the big hit of the Manteca first with a two-RBI triple, scoring Dennis Huber (2 for 3, RBI, double, two runs) and Tino Marinakis (3 for 3, three RBI, double, three runs). Marcus Aldridge (3 for 4, RBI, triple, two runs) got the Rays on the board in the first inning with an RBI triple, scoring Brayden Hoffman (2 for 3, double, three runs). Rodriguez got the last run of the six-run first, scooting home on a passed ball.
Chris Antellas blasted a two-RBI triple for the Rays in the second, plating Rodriguez and Marinakas. Marinakas added a two-RBI single, scoring Derek Anthony (3 for 4, two RBI, double) and Huber to help stake Manteca to an 11-0 lead.
Chris Antellas (triple, two RBI), Daelyn Luis (2 for 3, RBI) and Vic Mendez (2 for 3, two runs) rounded out the Rays attack.
Hoffman pitched the first 2.1 shutout innings, striking out five and allowing just one hit. Aldridge pitched the final 2.2 innings, striking out four while allowing one run and three hits.
The Dodgers exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Hudson Holden (2 for 3, three RBI, double, run), scoring Lucas Durao, Reed Dyk and Nate Pellerin (2 for 3, RBI, double, run). Prior to that, Pellerin doubled in Jake Brown. In the sixth inning, Troy Nascimento (2 for 3, run) and Logan Kootstra (2 for 4) reached on singles with Nascimento coming home on a play to first on a dropped third strike.
