STOCKTON — The Northgate Giants jumped out to an early lead Monday, scoring all of their runs in the first inning before watching the Spreckels Park Nationals go on a tear and end the game in five innings via the mercy rule 17-4, claiming the championship of the District 67 Minor League Tournament of Champions at August Knodt School.

It was an emphatic ending to the tournament the Giants forced a second final-round contest with an 11-6 win on Sunday.

A two-RBI double by Cash Ussery (2 for 2, two RBI, double) was one of three doubles in the Northgate first with the other two coming from Cain Torres an Jensyn Gann. All three scored as did Wyatt Heaney who led the game off with a single, but that was the end of the Giants scoring.

Spreckels Park improved as the night went on, scoring one run in the first, two in the second and five each in the third and the fourth before ending with four in the fifth.

Cutter Asuncion had had the monster bat for the Nationals, going 3 for 4 with an RBI, a pair of doubles and three runs. Jack Carroll was 2 for 3 with three runs, Jordan Silva (two RBI), Leo Morehead and Owen Aprile scored two runs apiece.
