Lathrop opened the Sac-Joaquin Section boys volleyball playoffs Wednesday night with a 25-13, 25-16, 28-26 sweep of No. 13 Oakmont.
The third-seeded Spartans (25-6) advance to the Division III quarterfinals and will host No. 6 Twelve Bridges (17-8) on Friday.
The Vikings (12-10) from Roseville had no answer for Gabriel Fa’ali’i, who fired a match-high 20 kills. Lorenzo Palomares added eight kills, and Marc Llorin pitched in seven.
Jorge Reyes amassed 37 assists, while Tristen Rower led the defense with nine digs. Jayden White scored five kills to go with eight digs. Andres Ricaldi contributed five digs and three aces.
Ripon Christian 3, Vanden 0
The second-seeded Knights (22-14) dispatched the visiting Vikings (14-16) from Fairfield, 25-20, 25-15, 25-17. They’ll square off with No. 7 McNair (21-10) in a Division III quarterfinal Friday.
Rio Americano 3, Manteca 0
In Sacramento, No. 12 Manteca (22-7) came up short 23-25, 17-25, 19-25 one night after a hard-earned, five-set victory in a play-in.
Fifth-seeded Rio Americano (17-16) heads to No. 4 Antelope on Friday.
BASEBALL
River Islands 10, Millennium 6
George Dayeh had a memorable senior night, coming up short of a cycle in the Riptide’s Central California Athletic Alliance finale at Islanders Field.
The infielder went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and two singles, while plating two runs and driving in three others.
Fellow seniors Israel Fuentes (triple, run, RBI) Logan Orndoff (2 for 3, two RBIs), Keoni Cervantez (triple, two runs, RBI) and Peter Mistica (RBI) also made offensive contributions.
Orndoff was also the winning pitcher, firing five strikeouts. Fuentes pitched two scoreless relief innings, which included two strikeouts.
River Islands (6-2, 14-7 overall) led 7-1 after three innings. The Falcons (1-7, 7-13) scored four of their runs in the fourth.
GOLF
Central California Athletic Alliance
Christian Dell'Osso was low medalist in the league finale, carding an impressive 9-under 63 at Micke Grove Golf Links.
He advances to the SJS Division VI Tournament set for Monday, May 11 at River Oaks Golf Course in Nicolaus.
