ENHANCING PEDSTRIAN SAFETY
Lathrop trying new tech at River Islands & Golden Valley parkways
LED right turn
The City of Lathrop is putting a traffic-control Blank-Out Sign at the busy intersection at River Islands Parkway and Golden Valley Parkway. It is activated by pedestrians crossing streets on green lights to direct traffic that also has a green light not to make a right hand turn into the path of pedestrians.

The City of Lathrop is installing its first-ever Blank-Out Sign.

The state-of-the-art traffic signal will be placed at the intersection of River Islands Parkway and Golden Valley Parkway – a busy area with Target, In-N-Out, and Starbucks on one side and the new Chevron station just opposite of that – with pedestrian safety in mind.

The city, in piloting this new technology, posted via social media: “This innovative sign, featuring high-intensity LEDs, is designed to improve visibility and safety for both drivers and pedestrians under various lighting conditions.

“It activates a 'No Right Turn' symbol for the northbound Golden Valley Parkway right turn lanes while pedestrians are permitted to cross the street, supporting increased pedestrian safety.

Lathrop will be seeking feedback on the effectiveness and potential of adopting this technology city-wide, adding: “Together, we're committed to enhancing community safety.”
