Lathrop Police crack down on unsafe traffic maneuvers by schools
lpd POATHC

The Lathrop Police Department and School Resource Officers are stepping up their efforts when it comes to a child's safety.

They called it their top priority.

“After receiving several concerns regarding traffic issues during drop-off and pick-up times at schools, the Lathrop Police Department Traffic Unit and School Resource Officers have joined forces to tackle these issues head-on,” said local police said via social media on Friday.

They’ve increased their presence in and around school zones during these crucial hours.

Officers will be providing information about traffic laws and conducting enforcement to ensure the safety of students, staff, and community members in school zones.

Folks are asked to obey these traffic regulations:

·         Avoid double parking, parking in crosswalks, blocking driveways, or parking in bus zones.

·         Do not park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

·         No U-Turns in residential areas when other vehicles are within 200 feet, unless at a controlled intersection.

·         Always yield to pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks.

·         A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while using a wireless phone unless its hands free. Use hands-free devices while driving, as per the law.

·         Stop at limit lines or before entering crosswalks, if unmarked. Drivers shall stop at a limit line, if marked, otherwise before entering the cross walk on the near side of the intersection. If there is no limit line or cross walk, the driver shall stop at the entrance to the intersecting roadway.

Officers, in addition, are requesting that motorists respect the no-parking zones, loading/unloading areas, and handicap parking spots.
