Lathrop repairing sidewalks, landscaping in Stonebridge

The Stonebridge Community & Landscape Project calls for improving pedestrian accessibility and installing sustainable landscaping.

The City of Lathrop is now moving forward with design work – the firm of Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is handling that part of the project.

The reason for these efforts?

“Many sidewalks in this area (west of Interstate 5 and north of Lathrop Road) have deteriorated over time and are in need of repairs, and there isn’t much shade for people walking through the neighborhood,” said city officials.

The project would fix those issues while create a safer and more comfortable experience.

According to plans, construction on this project would be conducted in four phases due to the scope of the size – South Harlan Road from Slate Street to Stonebridge Lane, including nearby drainage basins as well as on Slate Street, Stonebridge Lane, and Opal Street – and available funding.

The Stonebridge Community is over 20 years old with damaged sidewalk segments in need of being removed and replaced while being compliant with the current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Another part of the work would consist of replacing the irrigation system and installing appropriate landscaping to allow for more efficient use of water while reducing long-term operation and maintenance costs.

The City of Lathrop, in addition, provided some estimated timetable, including:

·         The design work expected to wrap up in late summer 2026.

·         Construction to be carried out in four phases.

·         Phase 1 construction could start as early as fall 2026.
