STOCKTON -- Discover worlds within our world as Delta College hosts a free open house on Tuesday, April 23. showcasing the College’s unique electron microscopy program.

 It takes place 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Center for Microscopy and Allied Science at Delta’s Stockton campus, on the southeast side of campus adjacent to the L3 and L4 parking lots

Delta College is the only community college in the U.S. to offer training in electron microscopy.

With magnification of 100,000 times or greater, these powerful microscopes are known as the “eyes of science” because they are used for critical research in many scientific fields. 

 Graduates of Delta’s electron microscopy program have landed high-paying, in-demand jobs at laboratories across the country.

 Delta’s microscopes will be on full display at the open house, with the public able to view amazing and even beautiful images of insects, gold particles, and other samples.

The public can tour labs, speak with faculty and students, and learn more about career opportunities.

 “These machines are at the forefront of technology in every sector you can think of,” said Associate Professor Rachaellien Trinh. “We encourage high school students and their parents, as well as college students, to attend our open house and learn more about the awesome possibilities that this program offers.” 

 In 2018, electron microscopy was among more than 20 career programs at Delta to be recognized by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office for the success of graduates. Those who finished the program saw an average 168 percent increase in their earnings.
