Ripon High honors longtime football announcer, teacher

Chuck Carley was the voice of the Indians, where, from 1986 to 2021, he served as the football announcer. He passed away in 2023. The press box at Stouffer Field was dedicated in his honor on Friday, with Athletic Director Rod Wright presenting a water color painting of Chuck Carley to his wife, Laurie, and family members and friends in attendance.

Chuck Carley lives on.

On Friday, Ripon High honored the longtime football announcer and educator by officially dedicating the press box at Stouffer Field in his memory.

Carley, who passed away on July 29, 2023, was the voice behind the mic, from 1986 to 2021, during game time.

 Included was the 2019 state championship game against Highland of Palmdale for the CIF Division 4-AA title.

He was at RHS for 38 years, teaching Ag Science, Computer Science, and Algebra. Along the way, Carley was recognized as Outstanding New Teacher in San Joaquin County (1982) and the Golden Bell Award for Excellence in Teaching (2003).

His wife, Laurie, along with his children, grandchildren, brother, and close family friends were in attendance during the dedication presentation which also included a water color painting of Chuck Carley by Kristi Mayfield at the Trans-Valley League game against rival Ripon Christian.

“The painting is also included on the plaque that has been installed in the press box,” said Wright, who presented the painting to Laurie and family.

He added, “We were blessed Chuck was part of our lives, and it was an honor to dedicate the press box to him.”
