The Ripon Recycling Center recently reopened to three days a week.

But on Monday, the City of Ripon facility located at 156 First St. shut down operations for the day due to the lingering poor air quality caused by the Santa Clara Unit (SCU) Lightning Complex fires.

It was back to business as usual on Wednesday for the recycling center, which closed briefly in March due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.

Since the beginning of the month, the Ripon Recycling Center resumed operations  from Mondays through Wednesday. 3:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Director of Public Works James Pease reported at the Aug. 11 City Council meeting that the Parent Teacher Volunteers of the Ripon Unified School District had resumed overseeing the operation.

The local school district along with the City and American Recycling are involved in a program that benefits students at Weston, Ripon, Ripona, Park View and Colony Oak elementary schools.
