Oktoberfest is an autumn festival held annually in Munich during late September and early October.

But one doesn’t need to go to all the way to Germany to enjoy a nice, tasty pint of craft beer not to mention the other festivities.

Closer to home is Red, White & Brew at the Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley, 280 Lifestyle St. in Manteca, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, from noon to 4 p.m.

This fourth annual event benefitting Give Every Child A Chance – that’s the free after school mentoring / tutoring services provided to south San Joaquin County students – will be serving up several varieties of craft beers and wines from breweries and wineries from throughout the area.

“This is our first year adding the wine to our event,” said Dina Deerinck, who serves on the SJ Valley Brewfest Committee.

What goes better with beer or wine than food?

Red, White & Brew will have vendors such as Fagundes Catering, Taco Fiesta, Rock Oven Pizza and YC Catering.

The latter is based in Stockton, offering Chamorro, Puerto Rican, Mexican and Classic American dishes while Fagundes is the local butcher shop offering chops, barbecue and other deli items.

Rock Oven Pizza is out of Riverbank.

“We’ll have foods that will go great with beer or wine,” Deerinck said.

She’s also the Marketing / Special Events Coordinator for GECAC, adding that the wineries involved are Leisure Street Winery from Livermore and Ironstone in Murphys. Delicato and Woodbridge, both local wineries, will also feature their wines.

Craft beers will be the main attraction.

Altamont Beer Works (Livermore), Lost Coast Brewery (Eureka), Renegade Brewing (Turlock), Riley’s Brewing Co. (Madera) and Morgan Territory Brewing (Tracy) heads the list of featured beers at Red, White & Brew.

That’s just for starters.

Drake’s Brewing Co. (San Leandro), Mad River Brewing (Humboldt County) and several kegs as furnished by Delta Sierra Beverage – namely, Dust Bowl (Turlock), Kona (Hawaii), Founders (Grand Rapids, MI), Bootlegger (Apple Valley, MN), Sierra Nevada (Chico), Track 7 (Sacramento), Indigeny Reserve cider (Sonora), Wildcide cider (San Jose) and Boston Beer Company featuring Samuel Adams – will also be on tap.

“We’re still looking to add more,” said Deerinck.

Red, White & Brew will also have vendors such as Posh, Thirsty Bear, Nut Up, Mary Kay, and Lip Sense for the first time.

This big fundraising event for GECAC will take place in southwest parking lot of the Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley or the corner of Union Road and West Atherton Drive.

DJ Randy will play the music and get the crowd going while games will consists of an over sized beer pong, Jenga, and cornhole.

Chicken Ranch Casino, the Port of Stockton, the South San Joaquin Irrigation District and the Cajun Spot Seafood Restaurant are among the major sponsors for Red, White & Brew.

Those attending must be age 21 or older.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Designated drivers are also available ($10 in advance, $15 during the day of the event).
