Teddy

Marisa Russo is on a life or death mission.

The Manteca Animal Shelter volunteer is trying to find a home for a healthy and playful husky before it is too late.

Russo and others have been looking for a home for “Teddy” for several months with no leads.

He is now on the euthanasia list meaning he has only a few days left to find a home.

Russo noted “Teddy” needs to be the only dog in a household.

You can contact the Manteca Animal Shelter at (209) 406-8270.

Russo can also send you a short video of “Teddy” at play.

Her email address is mlrusso77@yahoo.com.

Train versus car

An occupied vehicle that was stuck on the tracks at Woodward Avene and Moffat Boulevard late Friday night was struck by a Union Pacific train.

Manteca Police indicated there were no injuries.

Manteca averages two pedestrian versus train deaths a year.

Police advise the public to remember that trains coming through town cannot stop in a reasonable distance to avoid hitting persons or animals on the track.

In the past two years, there have been incidents that involved people being seriously injured —— or barely escaped getting hit — when they had no intention  of that happening.

One involved a man walking his dog when it got its leash tangled on a railroad tie. The man tried to untangle the leash but ended up getting struck and lost an arm.

In another incident, a person in a wheelchair trying to beat a train through a crossing got the wheels of their wheelchair stuck.

They were able to abandon the wheelchair at the Yosemite Avenue crossing downtown and get away before the train slammed into the wheelchair.

Police said it is important to stay off the tracks unless crossing at an approved crossing when the arms are up, and no trains are approaching.
