The City of Ripon’s Department of Planning and Economic Development received a project referral for the proposed outdoor storage of approximately 150 Tesla Mega Pack lithium ion batteries in the Heavy Industrial (M2) area of town.

The applicant is proposing to utilizing all of 350 E. Fourth Street (approximately 6.58 acres) and a portion of 222 E. Fourth Street (about 7.58 acres) on this project – the M2 zoning is the area between Stockton Avenue and Highway 99.

“The battery packs will be maintained in a dormant state at approximately 30 percent charge and will not be charged or discharged on-site,” according to the project description.

In addition, the operation would include storage and transport of the batteries along with other heavy industrial equipment.

The application is tentatively scheduled for the Feb. 17 or the March 16 meeting of the Ripon Planning Commission.

All comments and conditions of approval can be submitted to the Planning Department no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8.
