A pedestrian hit by a northbound train late Saturday morning at Center Street was in critical condition at San Joaquin County Hospital, according to a Manteca Police spokesman.

Sgt. Joe Aguilar said the 33-year-old Manteca resident was reported to have been walking on the sidewalk when he passed the down crossing arms and ignored the repeated blasts of the train’s horn before he was struck.

A number of the railroad crossings throughout the city were closed due to the mishap during the police investigation.
