Manteca offers galas to usher in new year

Sure the fireworks on San Francisco’s Embarcadero sparkle and the revelry is legendary.

But why travel two hours with hundreds of thousands of others to ring in the New Year when there are plenty of places right here at home that don’t require hours of standing around and trying to find your way home?

Several Manteca nightspots are making special plans to usher in 2011 in style by offering everything from sit-down dinners to live music and dancing

Rocko’s Sports and Spirits will be having a New York steak dinner to go along with raffle prizes, drink specials, and a champagne toast at midnight. Tickets, which are limited and can be purchased in advance, are $30 each or $50 per couple. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m., and a $10 cover charge will be in effect if space permits after 9 p.m.

“We’re hoping to get a nice crowd of people for dinner and who want to ring in the New Year right here in Manteca,” said owner JD Willis. “We’re going to have a lot of things going on that night that people will enjoy.”

The venue will also feature live music from a rockabilly band and raffle prizes, as well as a car service to help keep intoxicated drivers stay off of the road.

Over at Isadore’s, couples can enjoy a fine meal and then retreat to the longue for drinks and dancing to live music. Laurel Fang suggests that people make reservations for one of the busier nights of the year, and says that the cover-charge free lounge should start hopping at around 8:30 p.m.

And keeping with the theme of food and fun, Kelley Brothers will be offering a tri-tip buffet starting at 7 p.m. – with tickets available for purchase either in advance or at the door. Included in the $20 price is the buffet, a champagne toast at midnight, a balloon drop and live music.

Annual New Year’s destination Chez Shari will be hosting a private wedding for 200 people on New Year’s Eve, and will be closed to the public for the evening.

Rocko’s Sports and Spirits is located at 757 N. Main Street, and can be reached at 823-2527. To make a reservation at Isadore’s – located at 680 N. Main Street – call 825-4300. Tickets for the Kelley Bros. event can be purchased during the day at 112 E. Yosemite Ave., and addition information can be obtained by calling 825-1727.

Several non-profits are planning New Year’s Eve galas.

Dinner will be served, starting at 6:30pm with dancing from 9 p.m. to midnight. Tickets will be limited, so it will be important to purchase them as early as possible.
