AGING AMERICA & MERCY KILLINGS: John Wise watched a tear roll down his wife's face as she lay in her bed in the intensive care unit in a Cleveland hospital. She'd been unable to speak after a stroke and seemed to be blinking to acknowledge him — and, perhaps, their agreement that they didn't want to live out their years bedridden and disabled, he told a friend. Now Wise is facing charges of shooting her in the head in that hospital, presumably as a mercy killing. The shooting leaves authorities in a dilemma that some experts say will happen with greater frequency in coming years as more Americans grow older — what is the appropriate punishment when a relative kills a loved one to end their suffering?

MIDTOWN SHOOTING IN NEW YORK: When officers approached a man who they say was smoking marijuana in Times Square, it was the beginning of an encounter that would stretch for seven of the most crowded blocks in New York City and end with the man shot dead after he lunged at officers with an 11-inch knife during a pursuit that lured many onlookers. "If they're going to kill him, I want to take some pictures, I want to record it," said Lincoln Rocha, a Brazilian tourist who was among the crowd.

SYRIA NO FLY ZONE APPEAL: The head of Syria's main opposition group in exile makes a new appeal to the international community to enforce a no-fly zone in border areas to protect civilians. Over the weekend, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Washington and Turkey were discussing a range of steps including a no-fly zone over some parts of Syria as the regime increasingly uses its air force to attack rebel positions.

The stock of Chipotle Mexican Grill has climbed four-fold in five years, and for good reason. Most quarters, the company would report surprisingly high earnings and investors would clamor to buy. But last month, the pattern broke. Chipotle posted blockbuster earnings, but investors sold. The company's sin? It missed its target for revenues.

BILLY GRAHAM IN NC HOSPITAL WITH BRONCHITIS: A spokesman for Billy Graham says the 93-year-old evangelist is being treated at a North Carolina hospital for bronchitis. A joint statement Sunday from Graham's spokesman and Mission Hospital says Graham was admitted overnight for an infection in his lungs. The hospital is in Asheville, near his home in Montreat. He is resting comfortably in stable condition.
