Beginning Monday, Sept. 22, one-way, intermittent traffic control will be in place on Louise Avenue between Airport Way and Main Street from 8 a.m. to 5  p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic control flaggers will be stationed at each end of the construction zone, and motorists can expect 5-to-10 minute delays.

The work is expected to last approximately three weeks.

The traffic control measures will enable excavation of median areas for the Louise Avenue Median Beautification and Bicycle Enhancement Project that is underway. The excavation will allow contractors to install the water service connections for irrigation systems in the median.

Pedestrian and bicycle improvements for the project will include new sidewalks near the railroad crossing, new wheelchair ramps, parkway landscaping, reduced lane widths to discourage speeding, and restriping the road to include new Class II bicycle lanes. The bicycle lanes and pedestrian improvements will tie into the Tidewater Bike Path with a new crosswalk and additional landscape features.

The median locations for the project are designed to avoid blocking existing left-turn access and offsetting those areas with landscape improvements along the sidewalk where feasible.
