Brooklyn Joachim is quite familiar with the “Ripon Pow Wow.”

A senior at Ripon High, she went through the process Tuesday like clockwork, completing the registration process, getting her ID card, paying fees, and grabbing her fall class schedule.

“Everything was good,” said Joachim, who was browsing through the some of the Indians spirit wear.

She’s been through this process numerous times and is looking forward to her final year of high school, including soccer, prom and graduation.

Vice Principal Keith Rangel noted junior and seniors – about 500 altogether went through the “Pow Wow” process on this day – know the routine by now. The result of that are very few questions.

Not so for today. That’s when sophomores and freshmen do their “Pow Wow,” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I’m sure we will get more questions from our freshmen,” Rangel said.

He’s hopeful that these ninth graders will ease into that first day – students return to the classroom on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 8 a.m. – after freshmen orientation come Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Link Crew leaders will lead in the ice-breaking activities beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the North Gym. Link

Crew is a peer mentoring program consisting of upperclassmen helping newcomers transition into high school, with the leaders being made available to freshmen throughout the school year.

As for the “Pow Wow,” it’s not mandatory for a parent or guardian to attend this function. Students are required to have their signature on the proper paperwork along with funds to cover any purchases prior to picking up their schedule.
