Multiple large trash bags filled with 50 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $15,000 sent a Ripon man to county jail Friday morning.
First Sergeant Steve Merchant said officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Zumstein Drive at 7 a.m. Thursday after a citizen found the bags with the illegal stash.
Detectives along with the department’s new drug sniffing canine “Kilo” assisted in the investigation and the search of a suspect vehicle at the residence.
Donald Robert Smith, 25, of Ripon was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on charges that included manufacturing of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana for sale.
A vehicle and cash were seized as part of an asset forfeiture investigation.
Smith is being held in lieu of $260,000 bail with a court date set for April 16 at 1:25 p.m. in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court
