Ripon Unified received the request for qualification go-ahead not too long ago to help pave the way for the hiring of a construction management firm for the voter-approved bond measure.

The school board approved this first step consisting of a timeline for pre-qualification of construction management services at the Jan. 14 meeting.

“It is time to begin to build our construction teams,” according to the staff report. “By pre-qualifying the construction management providers, we will be able to mobilize our construction team on our upcoming projects on a timely basis and improve efficiency of the delivery of our forthcoming Measure G projects.”

The hiring of the actual construction management services will be payable from Measure G money.

The successful firm will be assigned the assortment of projects from the $25.2 million bond measure.

Included would be replacing the outdated portable facilities at Weston and Colony Oak schools with new permanent classrooms, constructing and improving of the library and science facilities, and modernizing and improving of the school support facilities.

RUSD, in the board-approved letter to interested firms, will look at some of the following:

• Resumes of the two or three important proposed team members, including the site leader and the prime contact for negotiating new contracts or dispute resolution (may be the same person).

• Resumes of key support personnel or consultant for scheduling, estimating and constructability reviews.

• Experience in construction management.

• Approach and expertise as related to value engineering, constructability, and cost estimating the pre-construction phase.

• Team experience on all alternative delivery methods.

Interested firms will have until 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, to submit their proposal – about 15 to 20 pages – with the possibility that some of proposers will get interviewed.

The board could OK the final selection of a firm at the March 11 meeting.
