The Spring Creek Golf and Country Club board of directors voted unanimously to increase its number of social members. The vote took place on Tuesday evening, shortly after members amended the club’s bylaws to make the increase possible. The maximum number of non-playing members is now set at 150, signaling a major shift in the club’s membership and immediate marketing strategies.Social memberships have doubled in the last 10 months, general manager and director of golf Jim Toal told The Bulletin last week, maxing out at 90.There were many left at the gates of Pebble Beach Drive, forced to wait on Tuesday’s votes. The increased interest in joining the club at a social level has been tied to the new clubhouse, which added 50 percent more interior space and 5,000 square feet of balcony. The clubhouse made its debut in April. “When you look at it, with our new facility and great golf course, you’re looking to enhance your membership numbers as much as possible to not only use the golf club but to generate revenue,” club president Dave Erb said on Wednesday.“By adding more social memberships, we’re increasing the amount of dues money to support the club.”The increase also comes at a time when proprietary memberships – or playing memberships – have dropped in relation to years past, Erb said.Proprietary members have complete access to the club, from the golf course and fitness center to the restaurant and swimming pool.“At this point, because the golf memberships are down, we’re able to offer more socials.
