DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that benefits public schools.
No one was more thankful for Donor Choose than the Morning 3-5th Grade Reading Club at Ripon Unified’s Park View Elementary School.
Donors Choose recently matched donations, in turn, providing four iPad Minis to enable students in this program to take more reading comprehension tests.
“Students (can now) read more books and achieve various Cub levels that are sponsored by the participating businesses,” stated Park View teacher Kathy Woodson in a letter received at the November Ripon Unified school board meeting.
She praised the Donors Choose for the much-needed support. “Within a week, my project was fully funded,” Woodson said.
That’s also the goal for this online charity. “When a project reaches its funding, we ship materials to the school,” according to the website, www.donorschoose.org.
The board also recognized the following:
uThe Ripon Lions Club for supporting Red Ribbon Week. The local service organization made possible the Red Ribbon wristbands to students and staff at both RUSD and Ripon Christian Schools, with the total estimated cost at $720.
uAn anonymous donor providing a $15,000 donation to help support the Ripon High library. “We appreciate the donation – it will definitely be useful and beneficial to our students and staff,” RHS Principal Lance Morrow said.
uThe Weston Elementary School PFA for helping cover the cost for landscaping ($2,000) and playground equipment installation ($7,250) at the newly remodeled campus. “We are quite lucky to have such a wonderful group of families supporting our school,” Weston Principal Lisa Fereria said.
Trustees, in addition, praised those who made possible the new softball and baseball scoreboards at RHS.
