SAN JOSE (AP) — Police say a woman was found dead inside a home after officers killed a gunman in a shootout following an hours-long standoff.
San Jose police Officer Albert Morales says police got a 911 call Monday afternoon that a gunman had forced a woman into a home in the Cambrian neighborhood, firing two shots into the ground before entering.
Officers sealed off the neighborhood and tried to negotiate with the man.
Morales said the man came out of the house with a gun as police were setting up a perimeter, leading officers to exchange gunfire with him.
The man, 45-year-old Leonel Acevedo, died at the scene and the officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. The woman was later found inside the house. She was identified as 53-year-old Yolanda Najera.
