SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Hundreds of San Francisco transit workers who participated in a sickout that stalled the city’s world-famous cable cars and disrupted bus and light-rail service are facing possible financial penalties.

A city investigation found of the 762 operators who called in sick at least once during the three-day sickout in June, 375 didn’t come up with a doctor’s note. Those operators are facing the possibility of having their pay docked.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported the numbers on Wednesday. According to the Chronicle, about 60 workers without doctors’ notes also showed up at the transit agency’s headquarters to pick up their paychecks on days they had called in sick.

The sickout came after workers overwhelmingly rejected a contract they say amounted to a pay cut.
