It’s a two-hour live performance filled with world-class thrills and excitement for the entire family.

The Ramos Brothers Circus is back in Manteca. For the second time in three years, the traditional big top tent returns to the vacant lot next door to the McDonalds at 105 E. Yosemite Ave.

“We like this location,” said Alex Ramos, who is a third-generation performer for the family circus.

Last year, his circus was set up on the empty lot directly across from Casino Real at 1355 N. Main St. Ramos indicated Wednesday that location didn’t attract as many passersby.

“Location is real important – we’re getting a lot of people here,” he said. “We’ve packed in the crowds during the weekend.”

As a performer, Ramos works as both an animal trainer and one of the stunt motorcycle riders. He’s entertained folks as a clown and a juggler.

“I’m really proud to be a part of the show. I like to bring smiles to faces of kids’ age 2 to 102,” he said.

The circus also doubles as a portable zoo during the day. Families can take their kids to see up close the zebra, camel, and lama, free of charge.

“So, we’re also educational,” Ramos said.

The Ramos Bros. Circus did its part for the community by donating canned food goods to the Second Harvest Food Bank, in turn, servicing over 35,000 individuals in need each month throughout San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties. “By donating a can, people got to see the circus for free that day,” said Ramos.

The family circus has been around for 120 years. Currently, those involved are third-, fourth- and fifth- generation performers.

The circus will be in town through this weekend, ending Monday, Sept 9.
