A 19-year-old woman shopper was assaulted inside her car shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday by two men in the Walmart shopping center parking lot in the 1200 block of South Main Street as she was placing her purchases inside her vehicle.
“After returning the shopping cart and walking back to her car, the woman was approached by both suspects,” Manteca Police Sgt. Michael Aguilar said.
One of the men began punching her while the other suspect was armed with a handgun. Her wallet was taken and the suspects fled on foot after citizens ran to her aid.
When Manteca officers arrived, the suspects were seen fleeing on foot behind Burlington Coat Factory across the street at 1055 South Main Street. They both jumped over a retaining wall behind the store into the nearby residential area. Despite a yard to yard search for the men, they were not located, Aguilar said.
Surveillance video was obtained from the scene. Anyone with information on the pair is urged to call the Manteca Police Department at 209-456-8101.
