Eugene “Gene” Vecellio, 65, entered in to rest on April 14, 2013 in Modesto, CA. He was born on November 14, 1947 in Hayward, CA. He joins his father, Joseph Vecellio and his brother Stephen Vecellio in heaven.

Gene grew up in the San Leandro area, graduating from San Leandro High in 1966. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force and he was proudly discharged as a Vietnam Veteran. He retired after 35 plus years from Safeway Stores as a Inventory Control Clerk/Assistant Manager in Castro Valley. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, coaching baseball and bowling. When his children were growing up Gene stayed very involved serving as president of the American High Booster Club for several years. Gene was truly devoted to his family; he lived his life with integrity and honesty. He was a true gentleman always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye; he loved them unconditionally. Gene will be remembered for his big heart and his generous spirit.

Mr. Vecellio is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Jeanette. His loving mother Alvina survives him and his adored children; Gene Michael “Gino”  Vecellio, Gina Marie Scheid and husband John.  He was blessed with two granddaughters Amber Marie and Samantha Nicole Scheid. In addition he is survived by his only sister Renee Campanella and her husband Charles. He is also survived by his extended family members and close friends; although not blood relatives they loved him as their own. Gene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

P.L. Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Vecellio family. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. held at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290, N. Union Rd., Manteca, CA.  He will be laid to rest at Ripon Cemetery at a later date.
