Graydon Bannert, 90, of Manteca, passed away surrounded by his family, March 10, 2024.  Born in San Jose, California, November 25, 1933

   He grew up in the Hayward Highlands. Graduating from Hayward High School, where he was active in Band and Track-Field.  Later serving in the US Navy for 5 years. Active during Korean War time. Employed as Captain the Livermore Fire Department for 22 years. Grady developed lifelong friendships in the department.  He enjoyed painting houses, a side hustle, woodworking, camping and gardening. His family has fond memories of all the vacation trips he planned. Hawaii being one of his favorite destinations.  Grady loved Dixieland Jazz and Big Band Music. We sent him off listening to Frank Sinatra,

"I did it my way".  Active in the American Legion Post 249, Manteca, serving as commander and adjutant.   He was a Docent and part of the weekly work crew at Manteca Historical Society and Museum.

   Graydon is preceded in death by his parents, Graydon and Mary Bannert. His siblings, Patricia Ashby, Kathleen Duncan, John Bannert and Margaret (Pegy) Botello. Daughters, Victoria Bannert and Jeanne Keener.

   He leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, Jacqueline, daughters, Mary Uecker (Dean), and Cynthia Garcia (James), many grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild.  Graydon will be laid to rest in a private service, San Joaquin Valley National Cementery, Santa Nella.

   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Legion Post 249, Manteca or Manteca Historical

Society and Museum.
