John D. Goodell, 58, of Wakefield, died unexpectedly Tuesday.  He was the beloved husband of Linda (Ogden) Goodell for 30 years.

Born in Tracy, CA he was the son of John and Gertrude (Utter) Goodell of  San Joaquin County, CA

Mr. Goodell has been employed at Naval Branch Health Clinics, Groton Sub Base, New London, for the past eight years.  He served in the US Navy, retiring as Chief after 24 years of service.  He joined the Navy at the age of 26 and this gave him and his wife the opportunity to live all over the world.  In 2004 he earned his BS degree from Roger Williams University and was currently working towards his Master's degree.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by three brothers-in-law, Gary McCoy of Manteca, CA, Bob Ogden and his wife Diane of CA, and Bill Ogden of NV, a niece and two nephews.  He was the brother of the late Deby McCoy.

Visiting hours will be held at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield,  RI, Thursday, May 31st from 5-6 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6 PM.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Kingstown Animal Rescue League, PO Box 456, Wakefield, RI  02880, or the Welcome House, 8 North Road, Wakefield, RI 02879.  For guest book and condolences, averystortifuneralhome.com.
