Ruthann Hughes, 65, passed away at Kaiser Foundation Hospital of Manteca July 18, 2009.

A native of Palo Alto, she was born at Stanford Hospital on June 25, 1944.

She was a Target employee and a church volunteer for many years.

She was the daughter of the late J.R. and Lorraine McCurdy and sister of the late Richard McCurdy. Her father was an Army soldier during World War II and was killed in action in France. Her late brother was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

She was the wife of the late Archie “Ted” Hughes who passed away in 1990.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her Dad, Lloyd Risso (Mary) of Manteca, and her brother Guy Risso (Lea) of Galt. She was also the aunt of six nieces and nephews, great-aunt of 16, and great-great-aunt of 16.

Mrs. Hughes moved to Tracy from Santa Clara 15 years ago. She worked as a cashier at Target Store for 20 years. She was always generous with her time and willingness to help others. She volunteered at the Larch Clover Community Center in Tracy on a regular basis. She never had children of her own but was always surrounded by her many nieces and nephews. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, baking, and playing board games with her nephews and nieces. According to her family, she never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or any other important dates and you knew it because you would get a card from her. She was known as a very cheerful person with a great sense of humor, and she loved making kids laugh.

Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. in Tracy, on Thursday, July 23, followed by graveside services and interment at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave. in San Jose, where she was buried next to her late husband.
