Wanda was born in Cawker City, Kansas the oldest child of Ben and Ada (Eggink) Dengerink. The family moved to Ripon, California in 1940 leaving the Dust Bowl behind. In 1946, Wanda married Albert Bruns and moved to South Dakota, returning to Ripon in 1952.
