Look for a “black” out in Winter Gym on Wednesday.

That’s when the Manteca High boys’ basketball team will take on Valley Oak League-rival Oakdale for a worthy cause.

The fourth annual “Hoops for Heart Black Out Game” is where students, players, cheerleaders, and fans of the Buffaloes will once again wear black in the spirit of bringing attention to the issue of heart disease, which is the nation’s No. 1 killer, according to the American Heart Association.

The goal of the “Black Out” event is to raise $2,000 for the American Heart Association. During the game, students will collect donations for the cause and provide information about heart disease preventions and warning signs to those in attendance – heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death, claiming the lives of more than 831,000 each year.

Link Crew, in addition, will be selling “Black Out” t-shirts at $10 each.

The American Heart Association is looking to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

The goal is to improve the health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases by 20 percent in the next two years. More information on the American Heart Association is available at
