RC amasses 478 yards in blowout of Grizzlies

RIPON — Ripon Christian rolled up 478 yards of offense to just 139 for Golden Sierra-Garden Valley as the Knights scored in every quarter to pummel the Grizzlies 42-7 in Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoff action at Ripon Christian High School.
Travis Zuidervaart directed the high-octane Ripon Christian offense, completed 10 of 13 passes for 192 yards with two touchdown passes to Jonah Lewis, who had five receptions for 98 yards. Zuidervaart hit Lewis for a 35-yard scoring strike with 3:59 left in the opening quarter, and Derek Dotinga’s 5-yard touchdown 3 minutes later gave the Knights a 14-0 lead.
Brenden Nutt pounded in Golden Sierra’s lone touchdown from 2 yards out midway through the second quarter. Ripon Christian (9-2) responded with 1:40 to go in the half, as Zuidervaart again hooked up with Lewis for a 25-yard pass. The Knights outscored Golden Sierra (7-4) 21-0 in the seocn dhalf.
Dotinga had 89 yards on 16 carries. Willem Hoekstra had touchdown runs of 5 and 9 yards, gaining 74 yards on 12 carries. Dominic Darretta rounded out the Knights scoring with a 66-yard scoring scamper.
It’s the second straight year the Knights opened the postseason with a win over Golden Sierra. Next week they’ll travel to No. 1-seeded Hilmar for the semifinals. Hilmar routed Mariposa, 51-22.
