Sierra High’s sophomore football team had an opportunity to seize control of the inside track to the Valley Oak League championship, but could not take advantage in a 31-21 loss to the Sonora Wildcats Friday at home.

The Timberwolves got touchdowns from John Cebelli-Sanford, Robert Silva and Hunter Johnson. Both Silva and Johnson found pay dirt via touchdown receptions, with Silva making a 10-yard grab and Johnson hauling in a 70-yard big play.

Both Johnson and Cebelli-Stanford were key contributors on the Sierra defense as well, joining Devin Nunez, Mateo Hernandez, Tyler Lewis and Ryan Vasquez with major defensive contributions.

The Timberwolves will try and get back in the win column Friday when they meet up with the Lathrop Spartans.
