The reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division III boys cross country champion was in dominant form in its Valley Oak League opener on Wednesday.
Led by Johnny Sandoval, the Lancers dusted visiting Kimball on their makeshift course around campus. East Union's girls won via forfeiture as the Jaguars did not field a full squad. There were only seven entrants in all for the girls race.
In the boys competition, EU's top six runners beat the top placer from Kimball to the finish line. Following Sandoval in order were Cooper Freeman, Alex Cuevas, Maury Ortiz, Evan Cooper and Abel Zuniga.
Two returning All-VOL performers dueled in the girls contest. Kimball's Shawna Blomgren came out on top, finishing in 23 minutes, 42 seconds. Taylor Snaer of East Union was the runner-up in 24:50. She was backed by teammates Linda Medrano (third), April Duarte (fourth), Ruth Okeanya (sixth) and Olivia Morgan (seventh).
