BASKETBALL: Manteca takes care of Kimball in march toward league title

Izabella Sanchez and Jada Ikharo both recorded double-doubles, helping Manteca’s girls basketball team rout Kimball 61-44 on Tuesday.

It was an important win for the Buffaloes (7-1, 21-4 overall), as they knocked off a perennial contender in their pursuit of at least a piece of the Valley Oak League title. They’ll play powerhouse St. Mary’s of Stockton in a non-league matchup tonight before wrapping up VOL play at Oakdale on Thursday and at home against dangerous Sierra on Feb. 6.

Sanchez torched Kimball (5-3, 14-9) for 20 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Ikharo contributed 12 points and 11 boards. Michailla Springs scored 13 points.

 

East Union 47, Oakdale 31

The VOL co-leading Lancers (7-1, 22-4) honored their two seniors, Mariela Navarro (five points) and Donnese Payne (six points).

Sophomore guard Nylah Dyson led the attack with 21 points, making six 3s. East Union led 26-17 at halftime and broke it open with a 14-2 third quarter.

Oakdale (2-6, 8-16) was led by Brooke Wheat’s 14 points.

The Lancers finish regular-season play at Central Catholic on Thursday and at Kimball next week.

 

Lathrop 63, Beyer 48

Marianna Delgado made six 3-pointers, finishing with 26 points and six rebounds for the visiting Spartans (8-3 Western Athletic Conference, 18-8 overall).

Tatiana Lowery added 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Shakara Porter corralled 13 rebounds to go with six points and two steals.  Lathrop jumped out to a 21-7 lead and held from there.

Kylie Kulina spearheaded Beyer (1-10, 4-19) with 25 points.

 

Riverbank 50, Ripon 24

Trans-Valley League-leading Riverbank (8-1, 17-4 overall) held the Indians (2-7, 8-15) to just four points in the second period and two in the third, staking a 45-16 lead.

Kailee Inderbitzin led Ripon with seven points, five rebounds and two steals. Danika Escola chipped in four points and seven boards.

Chancis Gamez led three Riverbank players in double figures with 19 points.

 

Escalon 44, Ripon Christian 39

The Knights (3-5 TVL, 11-10 overall) had an upset brewing but could not hold on after leading 27-17 at halftime.

Maddie Yonker led Ripon Christian with 11 points and eight rebounds. Kara Kessler also scored 11 points, Allison Copland grabbed nine rebounds and Cailyn Mouw produced six points, four rebounds and three assists.

Escalon improved to 6-2 in league, 21-2 overall.

 

VARSITY BOYS

Ripon 48, Riverbank 42

The Indians (8-1, 19-6) notched a hard-earned TVL win, getting 14 points and six rebounds from Ty Herrin. Landon Gillespie contributed 13 points and five rebounds.

Marcus Madoski added 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Dawson Downs pitched in with six points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Rolando Bazan netted a game-high 17 points for visiting Riverbank (5-4, 16-8).

 

JV girls basketball

Manteca 33, Kimball 30

Talia Shelbourne spearheaded Manteca with 11 points.

 

Lathrop 54, Beyer 11

The Spartans had 11 of their 12 players contribute to the scoring.

Zoha Ali led the way with 15 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Faith Butler turned in 12 points, five rebounds and five steals. Jazmine Sorrell Williams grabbed seven boards.
