Buffaloes bounce back

It didn’t take long for Manteca to bounce from its season-opening loss.

The Valley Oak League’s defending champion took it out on cross-town opponent Sierra in a 7-2 rout Wednesday. The Buffaloes dropped a 6-3 decision to VOL newcomer Central Catholic on Tuesday.

The only wins for Sierra (1-1) came from sisters Annie and Claire Banks. Annie overcame Elizabeth Tolbert in the well-contested No. 1 singles matchup, 7-5, 7-5. Claire Banks cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Julia Saling in No. 3 singles.

It was otherwise a dominant effort for the visiting Buffaloes.

Sealy McAdams edged Simran Thind 7-6 (7-1) in the opening set of the No. 2 singles match before running away with it 6-1 in the second. Allison Rachels (6-0, 6-1), Fechi Nkwocha (6-3, 6-1) and Katie Inderbitzin (6-2, 6-1) had little trouble dispatching their opponents.

Manteca won all three doubles bouts for the second straight day. Doing the damage there were Kaitlyn Hoyer-Alondra Avila (6-1, 6-2), Koryn Menasco-Stefania Mercado (6-4, 6-1) and Rubel Dehal-Gladis Sandoval (6-1, 6-2).

The Buffaloes will cap a busy opening week to the season Friday and Saturday at the annual California Girls Tennis Classic held in Fresno and Clovis. Sierra heads to Central Catholic next Tuesday.
