Buffs storm out to big lead, cruise past Central Valley

The Manteca High sophomore basketball team raced out to a 24-6 first-quarter lead Wednesday night at Winter Gym and never looked back, thumping Central Valley, 73-39.

With the win, the Buffaloes moved to 1-0 in Valley Oak League play.

Eric Godfrey had 13, Josh Walters nine and Taylor Hasal eight as every Buffalo scored.

The Buffs head to Oakdale Friday.

Oakdale 65, Weston Ranch 54

In Weston Ranch, Lorenzo Simmons had 22 points in the Cougar loss.

Divante DeLeon had 14, and Tau Cavil 10.

Antonio Lopes put in overtime on the defensive end.

Weston Ranch (0-1 VOL, 5-6 overall) travels to Central Valley Friday.

Ceres 56, East Union 41

In Ceres, TeeJay Gordon paced the Lancers with 18 in a losing effort.

“We played hard the whole game,” EU head coach Jeff Lund said. “We worked their lead to 10 in the fourth, but we couldn’t get over the hump.”

Sonora 37, Sierra 36

In Sonora, Tim Thornton dropped 19 on the Wildcats but the T’Wolves would come up just short.

Jojo Berry and Bret Wilson both had five.

Sierra (1-1 VOL, 3-6 overall) hosts Ceres Friday.

East Union 65, Ceres 27

Alex Del Rio had a monster night, collecting 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Lancers’ win.

Zac Carillo had 10 boards, Wayne Chung had nine points and Brandon Cline had 11.

EU (1-0 VOL, 8-2 overall) hosts Sonora Friday.

Manteca 46, Central Valley 33

Ben O’Dell had 13 and Kenny Gaines had 12 as the Baby Buffs improved to 2-0 in VOL play and 9-4 overall.

Erick Pastran played a good floor game, collecting a number of key rebounds.
