Defense sparks RC in blowout of Franklin

ESCALON — Ripon Christian limited Franklin to just two fourth-quarter points Friday and won the consolation championship of the Escalon Tournament with a 53-28 thumping of the Yellowjackets.
The Knights (2-1) trailed 12-11 after the first quarter and then exploded for a 29-17 halftime lead and never looked back.
“We picked up our intensity in the second quarter,” Ripon Christian coach Ed Mulder said. “And that turned the game around.”
Renae Heida led the Knights with 13 points. Kelly Engel earned all-tournament honors and added 12 points followed by Rilee Clark with 11 points and Taylor Anema with nine.

Sheldon 41, Sierra 33
STOCKTON — The Timberwolves fell behind early and could not close the game in second-round action at Edison High School.
“We are improving every night and the girls are working hard,” Sierra coach Larissa Founts-Bergerson said. “These tough teams are forcing us to adjust our game quickly and make appropriate changes to what we need to do to improve for the next game.”
Natalie Dias led the Timberwolves (1-2) with 13 points. Lindsey Walljasper added 12 points, including going 4 for 4 from the free-throw line.
