Doyle is low medalist again for Sierra golf

McKenna Doyle set the curve and the Sierra girls golf team followed suit in a 243-395 Valley Oak League victory over Weston Ranch.

Doyle earned medalist honors for the second time this week with a match-low 44, but her teammates weren’t far behind at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Vanessa Rodriguez and Legacy Barnes fired matching 49s, while Kayla Wilson and Arlena Gavino finished with a 50 and 51, respectively.

The top-six scores from Thursday’s match belonged to a Timberwolf, including Krystal Rayevich’s throw-out round of 52.

Sierra is now 6-1.

Weston Ranch was paced by 78s from Emmelene Garcillas, Ailen Revuelta and Janveer Gill.



Alumni: Ugalino
leads Delta scorers

East Union graduate Brittany Ugalino paced Delta College during Thursday’s Big 8 Conference tournament at Kennedy Park in Napa.

Ugalino shot a team-low 16-over 88 as the Lady Mustangs finished fifth with a 383. Modesto Junior College cruised to victory with a 345, followed by Butte (357), Sierra (362) and Sacramento City (379).

East Union doubled up crosstown rival Sierra thanks to a sweeping performance from its doubles teams.

The duos of Fabiloa Magana and Haley Swinger, Vanessa Hamilton and Tabatha Barrington, and Matarin Lee and Natalie Karim surrendered just nine total points in their straight-sets victories.

Singles players Jennifer Contreras and Teresa Haley rallied back from second-set losses to notch Weston Ranch’s only points.
