East Union escapes Lathrop with 4-set win

Lathrop threatened to force a fifth set but came up short against visiting East Union, which prevailed 25-15, 25-22, 13-25, 25-21 for its first Valley Oak League victory of the season.

Lathrop remains winless at 0-6 overall.

“We came out and played well but just kind of let up a bit,” East Union coach Rich Posz said. “It took us a while to get back in the groove. We were able to get control back late in the fourth game to close it out.”

Destiny Flores tallied 19 digs while scoring 17 service points, five of which went for aces. Edmi Lopez clubbed 10 kills, and Haley England contributed eight.

East Union next plays host to Kimball on Thursday. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.



Oakdale 3, Sierra 0

The Mustangs (2-0, 9-9) made quick work of visiting Sierra in a 25-5, 25-9, 25-12 sweep.

Kristen Maestretti recorded 14 digs, two kills and a block to lead the Timberwolves. Tayler Moss contributed four assists.



Sophomore

Oakdale 2, Sierra 0

Sierra shook off its slow start but was still swept, 8-25, 21-25.

Kaitlyn Cathey finished with two kills and two aces, while Kayla Bolton had two digs.

Freshman

Oakdale 2, Sierra 1

Oakdale was able to race away with the victory after two competitive sets. Scores were 25-23, 24-26, 15-6.

Lindsey Walljasper spearheaded Sierra with five blocks, two kills and eight service points. Carly Murhin chimed in with two kills and an assist.



East Union 2, Lathrop 0

Vanesa Garcia pounded out seven kills for East Union, which evened its VOL mark to 1-1 with its 25-11, 25-6 victory. Giana Telles added three kills.
