East Union gets tough win in Sonora

Conquering a Valley Oak League win over the Sonora Wildcats at Mountain Springs Golf Course is no easy task, but a task that proved conquerable Tuesday in the Lancers’ 206-210 VOL win Tuesday in Sonora.

East Union standout and team No. 1 Will Brink turned in low medalist honors with an even-par round of 36. Zach Couch (39) and Jordan Duvall (41) Evan Lewis (44) and Jordan Lund (46) all followed suit, with Eric Lewis’ 48 being the Lancers throw-out score.

“It was nice to see Will come back after not playing so well yesterday,” East Union head coach Dennis Wells said. “Jordan Duvall asked me in the van what I thought we had to shoot today and I told him 206 or lower.

“I figured 206 would probably get the job done and that’s what they shot.”

The victory assures East Union of a legitimate shot at the VOL title when they open the league championship tournament May 1 at Diablo Grande in Patterson.

“I told my guys that we have potential to be one of the best golf teams I have ever coached,” Wells said. “They haven’t put it all together yet, but I see the potential for that.

“When I say that stuff to my team, I mean it 100 percent.”
