Buoyed by two Manteca doubles forfeits, Sierra’s Jason Machado closed out the competition Tuesday with a marathon 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 win over the Buffaloes No. 2 Ryan Foo in a blustery 5-4 Valley Oak League win for host Manteca.

“With the wind it was really tough,” Machado said. “You had to battle the wind as well as the opponent. Props to his for having to deal with it too.

“But it was so long. It was a battle and my legs hurt.”

The Buffaloes No. 1 Kayson Neduvakkattu outlasted the Timberwolves Quentin Banks 6-4, 6-4.

“It was a tough match,” Neduvakkattu said. “It was very competitive and I got very lucky at the end with some passing shots. I really enjoyed it.

“I have had a winning drought for some time, but I made up for it today.”

Sierra won one more match, with No. 4 Zach Van Zwaluwenburg defeating Manteca’s Luke Samson 6-2, 8-7.

The other Manteca singles wins were at No. 3 with Rav Grewall defeating David Martin Jr. 6-1, 6-3; No. 5 Emiliano Hurtado downing David Nasser 6-2, 6-1 and No. 6 Kevin Neduvakkattu downing Aaron Crawford 6-0, 6-3. Manteca won the only contested doubles match with Jordan Navales-Joseph Nguyen defeating Hari Chandran-Myles Olna, 6-3, 6-3.
